Does this kidney make my head look bald?

Pssst. Let's talk about an under discussed CKD and dialysis side effect that affflicts many female patients: hair loss.

It's a sensative subject. Women especially tend to not discuss it with the openness that they might with other less taboo side effects. Hair loss can have a major impact on a womans sense of mental wellness, self-image and perception of health. I say this from experience, because one day I woke up looking like the Crypt Keeper.

I normally have fine, thin hair. With the onset of CKD (Chronic Kidney Disease) that thin hair thinned out even more. Handfuls of hair fell out every shower. My hair became limp and stringy. Combine that with the fact that my skin had become dry and lined and my eyes were sporting bags that Birkin would envy; and I ended up feeling and looking like the Crypt Keeper.

My self-esteem took a much needed boost and I felt comfortable out in public again.
